I figured I'd make a small graphic explaining how the game's animations work, so that people will have something to go by any time they make suggestions.
Character's poses are animated separately, and combined with a pose of the same type. If the other character does not have the same type, they will use the default pose.
Y - These poses are submissive. (getting fucked)
A - The most basic pose type (and default). Male enemies will all have an X-A animation, and female enemies will all have an X-A and Y-A pose. Female enemies will also have an alternate X-A animation when they are in a futa state.
B - Most of these will probably be like the cat mating press pose, rather than the human one. Though I am considering adding an optional head background layer to every X animation so that they will work if the Y animation is not a press pose.
D - This pose is used when a female enemy is dominating a male enemy. However it will also be used when a female enemy fucks a female enemy who is in a futa state.
Contentious poses
I might not keep these.
G - This is a grab pose with a short loop and no stages. It is in previous versions but has not been added back in yet. I'm still unsure if I will keep this one. It would mostly be used for transitioning from an attack into sex. It would also be used for drain type attacks, however in general I think I could come up with a better format.
F - This pose specifically facilitates thrusting from below. The benefit of this pose is that the X pose can be behind or in front of the character and it will still work. I'm also unsure about this one. Front views are a bit difficult to do for some characters, and it is a bit difficult to come up with variations that work in context.
Potential poses
Some poses I could add
Kiss: A standing kiss pose that could have either side be dominant or submissive. It would be a simple loop with leaning forward (dominant), standing straight (even), and being forced back (submissive), possibly even with a knockdown part where the one being kissed is shoved to the ground, leading to other animations.
Grope: A groping pose would be good, but might be difficult. characters are all different sizes, and so it may be difficult to make a pose that would work with any size enemy.
Gangbang: There would need to be a specific animation for gang-banging to work. It would have to be from a side view, otherwise there would need to be a different X animation for left/right.
Feel free to suggest other pose types or angles, and how they might be used.
I would really like to see F kept and fleshed out more. You can set up these with gangbangs where e.g. one or two enemies are holding the character up while another is below and thrusting. Alternatively you could set up some event where enemies become large and are capable of holding you up alone, with their tentacles or arms or whatever they have available. They could also be used when the player dies and is "kidnapped" (IIRC you mentioned something like that being implemented?) to some location, so they could be tied by their legs.
ReplyDeleteIn addition it would be nice to see some D poses that aren't necessarily domination, but rather inviting e.g. sticking the butt out while standing at an angle that leaves the butt more visible, but not necessarily obscuring the player's face (that too could happen though I guess). You could also re-use the other poses that already work as inviting ones and add some alluring facial expressions and the player slapping her butt.
D pose can't be anything but domination.
DeleteThe way the poses work is that the X pose must work with the Y pose. (In the case of D, it must work with the enemies laying down.)
its a good idea, but some of these are better than others, specifically the cats AY pose. (it would be nicer to see her legs a little further back the way it looks now looks stiff and unnatural.)

perhaps a few "resting" poses could be cool, where the enemies sometimes remain "in you" after nutting. like cock warming, or maybe if you got knotted by a werewolf
one question though, considering the cat and the human have similar body shapes, couldn't you trace over the humans animations to make them into animations for the cat girl like how disgaeia works, id imagine it would be easier than making all new animations. though i dont know much about these things.
I realized this in your last couple builds. It's really innovative and it makes things a lot easier in terms of dynamics I imagine, but there's something that's been irking me, and I think it's just that.
ReplyDeleteAs I've said before Kyrieru I'm a big fan of your work, palette selection and animation. You do an incredible job, and the animation is up to par with your previous works. Though for a while I couldn't put a finger on why the scenes didn't pack as much of a punch for me, and I think maybe this system is why. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think this system can also restrict a lot of creativity.
Through it all I can't really complain, as I still very much appreciate the product. This project is shaping up to be more than just h-scenes for me, and I'm excited I caught this earlier than later in dev.
The system is a double edged sword, but without it enemy X enemy animations would not be feasible.

ReplyDeleteIn terms of domination poses, a nice touch would be to see an angle similar to the cat's pose for the masked ghoul enemy. Though this may require some additional development, a pose facing the viewer would be a bit more enticing every now and then.
ReplyDeletePerhaps a short groping loop just before sex animations such as a thigh squeeze or breast grab could work as well. A sort of 69 type pose for domination would be pretty sweet, but this is all wishful thinking on my part.
Either way, I really love your sprite work and animation. Keep it up!

DeleteIf I'm reading this right, there's going to be only one (non-futa) X-A pose for everyone? If so, you should standardize the perspective and places to grip for A-poses. The cat's Y-A and the gobbo are not oriented the same way as the rest, which are at an angle.
ReplyDeleteFor Debbie Default I think slug's X-A work best, especially the first pose you made (which isn't on that sprite sheet). It feels like he's laid on top of her. Gobbo's got a bit of a "porn angle", but it works fine.
The cat's Y-A looks great, but it's facing the same way as the gob. That works for him, but the octo and the slug kinda ... stare into her leg when they do her. They're not gripping anything, just floating there by the strength of their dicks.
Separating the A poses into left-right and angled-away-from-camera types would also work, though you'd need to animate an additional X-A for each monster. Maybe also add angled-toward-camera ones.
As for G poses, I liked the way the slug and the octo could grab you without being down, both in their own specific way. And the facehugging.
Most will be at an angle like the slug and the player's poses.
DeleteNot all poses will look perfect when paired, since it is a choice between 100% standardized, or all poses being slightly unique.
I know it's not supposed to be perfect. I'm just saying it's best not to mix perspectives within the same pose group, otherwise the X and Y look disconnected.
DeleteDo you have a base dummy sprite from which you draw the poses? Designating pixels on it where the participants can touch might help, like how it is with penetration.

I'm a fan of the extra actions added with the G poses but you said you can come up with something better, so I'm curious to see what you have in store for that.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see gangbang animations being implemented too, even if it's only with very specific enemy combinations, just because I feel like the game would be lacking if the enemies couldn't fuck the MC at the same time and only had the option to watch and take turns. That's just me, though.

DeleteIt would be nice to have some forced oral with male monsters. If need be it could be a female character with a submissive pose for that instead of making a new dominant pose. Like the goblin B pose could be used with a female monster sprite where she's positioned so she's getting facefucked, instead of a mating press thing.

XD1 dominating YD1, where the cat joins up on the mouth of YD1, with the animation of XD3 (cat). So it will be our character XD1 on the left, XD3 on the right and, YD1 below.

ReplyDeleteAs far as suggestions go: one thing I love about Zell's pixel art games that I'd love to see adopted here is before and after animations. That is, presenting/seduction gestures, and post-sex animations (one of a particularly "drippy" nature).

I think the number of poses is fine, I'd prefer to see a greater variety of enemies with the standard poses, and at least 1 unique more detailed animation for enemies that aren't a variation of anthro, so the work doesn't become too much of a burden.
